Paying attention 32

In the midst of a day of temperature, calpol and grumpy boys. In the midst of tired grumpy parents. I am still crazily thankful and overwhelmed to be a mother. I am thankful for my Mum and for her Mum. I am glad of all the people I got to mother (why are there negative connotations about that phrase? To mother is to care, nurture, love and defend) when I was single. I am glad our God is full of fierce awesome tender mother love.

And I’m highly amused that my son chose my Mother’s Day present – apparently the conversation went like this:

Husbandface: what shall we get mummy for Mother’s Day?

Son1 (excitedly): a book!

Husbandface: which book?

Son1 (thoughtfully): about …Mary Berry!

And so I have a new Mary Berry cook book 🙂

Heading to London in the sunshine.  Smiley boy on the train. Anna and Sarah. Talking, praying, eating. The dress. The legend of husbandface looking after son1 despite being uber ill. Cake. Oh so much cake.

The bliss of a whole hour with my Spiritual Director. Realising God has been about these last 5 months since son2’s birth. Spilling it all out. Remembering and reflecting. Aware of the divine at work. A small island of peace at the end of a crazy full on week. The sacrifice of the ill husbandface so it could happen. Breathe my soul, breathe.

Son2’s grinning winsome ways to all he meets. Such a stunning smile despite being pretty grumpy with teething all day long. He has the ability to silence anyone speaking with his big toothless tongue out grins 🙂 I think he’ll take over the world with it soon and it could be deployed as a weapon.

Two boys asleep at the same time for at least an hour 🙂 Bake off almost winning over Bing Bunny. The lovely Alice around for the afternoon. Wednesday is over. Phew.
