Paying attention 8

IMG_0909It’s the small things. The way he smiles at me. The patience as he puts son1 to bed. The firm yet loving way he explains what’s going on to a mental toddler. The way he loves our boys. The laughter in our house even during tired grumpy weeks with no sleep. The way he takes the moans of his grumpy wife. The way he looks. The way he loves me. The grasp of his hand through it all.

In the midst of a hardcore week of no sleep and sick children it is beautiful to have the extra pair of hands, eyes and mouth to partner in this parenting lark. I am grateful. I am delighted that we share this thing called life.

Oh and the kickass curry I made tonight. One I’ve been making since the second yr of uni and the recipe is still working 🙂

Lazy slow start to the morning. Enjoying moments as a family. Grace that holds us together through the shouting bad choice moments. The dentist finally finishing the epic filling. The joy at half term books for the boys from an awesome independent children’s book shop.

Prayers for exactly what we need. The safety of Jo’shouse after a grumpy day and the delight they bring us and our boys. Pancakes.

Day at the excellent Nana and Gaga’s. Extra pairs of arms to carry son2. Getting a hour and a half nap on a wiped out day. Just a minute making the rainy drive home more fun.

Late afternoon walk to get milk. Sun streaming around the city. A taste of warmth on my skin. Winter trees waiting to bud casting shadows on tall white town houses. Blue sky backdrop. Sunday afternoon. A moment of peace.
